Connect marketing to the CRM so you can see which demand becomes valuable customers. The first goal is a trustworthy business record. More elaborate reporting can follow once the connection works.
Start with the fields needed to trace a lead through the process and the people responsible for keeping those fields accurate.
Build a minimum field map
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Stable lead or contact ID | Connect the same record across stages |
| Created timestamp | Identify the acquisition cohort |
| Source and campaign context | Explain where the enquiry originated |
| Qualification status and date | Distinguish fit from initial submission |
| Opportunity ID and stage | Track the commercial process |
| Customer outcome and date | Record what actually happened |
| Value and relevant scope | Support economic comparison |
Preserve identifiers appropriately and avoid placing personal information in public URLs or unnecessary exports.
Define the transitions
Agree on what makes a lead qualified, when an opportunity exists, and when someone counts as a customer. Include disqualified and unresolved states. Otherwise the report may silently treat missing data as failure or success.
Assign an owner for each update. A field map without an operating process will deteriorate as soon as the team gets busy.
Reconcile a small sample
Trace ten known journeys from source through the CRM and final outcome. Check duplicates, missing source fields, mismatched timestamps, and records created through alternate forms or manual entry. Fix the pattern rather than patching only the sampled rows.
Then compare aggregate counts with the underlying records.
Return useful outcomes to platforms where appropriate
Google documents offline conversion import and enhanced-conversion workflows. Select the current method that fits the business and its permitted data use. Implementation should be checked against the actual account and requirements rather than copied from an old interface tutorial.
The analytical connection and the platform upload are related but separate jobs. A successful upload does not prove every business definition is correct.
Make the report actionable
Compare acquisition sources using qualification, customer progression, costs, and outcome maturity. Keep uncertain and unmatched records visible. Use the gaps to improve the process rather than hide them in a blended total.
The measurement guide places this map in the broader system. The value is a better allocation decision, not simply another integration marked complete.
