The Quality Check Every Startup Article Should Pass

Before publishing, ask what the reader can do better because this article exists. If the answer is only that they can read another summary of familiar advice, the page needs a stronger contribution.

A reliable editorial process should make quality visible before the article count grows.

Check the purpose

State the intended reader and their task. Compare that promise with the actual article. Remove sections that create length without helping the task, and add missing explanation where a decision remains unresolved.

A title promising a comparison needs consequential differences and a recommendation. A title promising a template needs something the reader can use.

Check the contribution

Look for a useful framework, worked example, original analysis, documented experience, or unusually clear explanation. The contribution should be specific enough to identify in a sentence.

Google’s helpful-content guidance emphasizes originality and reader value. Treat that as an editorial standard rather than a demand to decorate generic writing with more keywords.

Check the evidence

Verify claims against appropriate sources. Label hypothetical numbers and preserve the scope of research. First-person language should reflect the author’s actual background or an explicitly reasoned opinion, not a fabricated memory.

Check the calculation as well as the sentence around it. Correct arithmetic can still mislead if the denominator, time period, or excluded costs are unclear.

Check the voice

Lead with the useful point. Explain the tradeoff. Replace vague recommendations with conditions a reader can evaluate. Remove repetitive openings and closings that make distinct articles sound interchangeable.

Keep technical detail where it changes the decision or enables execution.

Check the page

Confirm title, description, headings, source links, related links, dates, and mobile readability. Make sure a linked template or tool actually exists. Do not publish placeholders as if they were completed resources.

Make an editorial decision

Publish, revise, merge, or stop. A weak article does not become useful because it fills an empty slot in a calendar. Preserve the reason for the decision so the next brief improves.

Use the topic map to check overlap and the claim review for evidence. Quality control should protect the reader’s time as well as the publication’s credibility.
